How We Select Our Gemstones
We believe in Long Term relationships with both, miners and buyers. Due to this, we know many of the miners personally and get first hand selection at the best stones that come out of mines from the East African Region, the crème de la crème. Which we in turn, ‘cherry pick’ and offer out to you.
Stone selection is based on clarity, colour, shape, size, and of course attractiveness and beauty of the individual stone. We professionally hand-select each stone; piece by piece, one by one, with fibre optic lights, using the latest testing equipment. We buy only the best, the cleanest and the most vivid. All of our rough is specially selected with emphasis on shape, and we try to remove all inclusions before offering them out. The predictability of finding clean stones from miners’ lots varies from 1 stone in a kilo to one stone in 5 kilos. Hence we pay a Premium to acquire the Highest Quality rough and facet rough stones that miners bring in.
Primarily, we buy facet rough to cut with our in-house lapidary, but also offer it out on this site as we supply many facetors around the world to cut stones how they please. All our stones are untreated, unheated, unless otherwise stated.
One of the main issues in the gemstone industry today, is the amount of synthetic and treated stones moving around in the market and amongst gem dealers. The issue comes in where there is the lack of knowledge to identify such. You've got to know synthetics backwards, what they look like and detect with 100% accuracy an artificial from a genuine. In some cases, brokers with access to synthetics would try to thermally shock stones so they look like they have natural inclusions. In other cases, they cement carbon on stones. Sometimes, fosterite gets peddled as tanzanites. We have testing equipment to identify synthetics and treated stones, and if any modification has been done to any stone from its natural state.
We believe we are one of the best Gem selectors in the Industry; individually selecting Top Quality, Top Grade, Natural Genuine Gemstones.
